The aftermath of the Feb. 7-8 fire that tore through the former Sobeys building at 205 Pleasant Street is unfolding as the workweek begins.

The Pleasant Street Diner, a popular spot for seafood and burgers, posted on Facebook last night that their part of the plaza was structually sound but did incur some smoke damage.

“It is necessary that we professionally clean the premises before re-opening,” the Diner’s post stated. “We will be closed on Tuesday, and if there are further closures we will keep you updated. We would like to thank the first responders who handled the blaze and stopped it from spreading to the other operating businesses.”

The Diner’s post has received more than a thousand likes.

On the other side of the plaza, ceiling damage was visible inside of Efty Dishes, looking from the outside.

MacKay PharmaChoice also posted an update on Facebook, reporting that the pharmacy would continue to be closed today. The pharmacy made no mention of damage but said prescriptions will be available for pickup at Family Drug PharmaChoice at 382 Portland Street.

The Woodside Tavern is operating as usual, with its typical opening hours.

As of this morning at 9 a.m., the former Sobeys building had not yet been cordoned off. A GardaWorld security guard on the premises told the Post that the investigation was ongoing and that security was currently present at all hours to ensure no one tries to enter.

The Post has reached out to the owners of Efty Dishes, Alexandra’s, and MacKay PharmaChoice to see if they have any further updates.
