June events bringing outdoor feasts, merriment to Dartmouth
As the outdoor season is starting up, South Dartmouth events celebrate our community and its local food.
On June 6, the Dartmouth General Hospital Foundation is holding its annual Lobster Dinner & Auction. You can choose to partake either in the luxury harbourside tent at Fisherman’s Cove in Eastern Passage, or use the drive-through option and go to your own location for the feast. Proceeds from this event support Dartmouth General Hospital on Pleasant Street.
Exploring how people in communities interact, the Dartmouth Players are performing Norm Foster’s “Sinners” from June 11 to 27 at Stairs Memorial United Church. The story is set in conservative small town, where a well-respected woman finds herself at the centre of a moral scandal. This play is sharp, heartfelt, and surprisingly funny — a story about judgement, truth, and the people behind the gossip.
Continuing the theme of food, on June 12 and 13 the Food For The Ears Festival is taking place at Alderney Landing. This is a nonprofit festival of music and art, donating all proceeds to Feed Nova Scotia. The festival is dedicated to showcasing artists and bringing people together, and features high-calibre headline bands and singers like Rankin MacInnis, Elyse Aeryn, Colrain and The Public Service.
More lobster can be won at the annual lobster draw at the North Woodside Community Centre on June 13, where you can win $200 worth of lobster through a ticket draw. Proceeds go to the community centre towards programs and equipment. Tickets are available at the community centre office.
A great way to introduce your little ones to the magical world of live theatre, the Sanctuary Arts Centre is hosting A Princess Pyjama Party on June 20 and 21. This is a very relaxed and welcoming event, designed to delight princes and princesses of all ages, and make everyone feel like royalty. Dress up in your sparkliest royal attire or cozy up in your favourite pajamas, and be ready to sing and dance along. Tickets required for those one and older.
Just as last year, the KANA’TA: Canada Day 2026 celebrations on July 1 offer a variety of new and refreshed cultural, musical, and family-oriented events to enjoy. There will be an open air concert at the Dartmouth Ferry Terminal Park hosted by the African Nova Scotian Music Association, followed by the fireworks over the harbour at 10 p.m.
On the following weekend, July 3 to 5, Alderney Landing is hosting the Harbourside Ribfest, a celebration of delicious food, great community, and good music, while the North Woodside Community Centre is putting on a “New to You” Flea Market and BBQ on Saturday, July 4. This event also includes a scavenger hunt and face painting.
