Spring is finally springing in South Dartmouth, and there are plenty of local events where you can enjoy the season at its best.

The South Woodside Community Association has its Annual General Meeting on May 12 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the South Woodside Community Centre (access from Osborne St). There will be reports of programs and activities, nominations and elections for board positions, a Q&A for ideas and suggestions and plans made for the coming year.

Local music talent will be showcased at NovaFest, a two-day music festival hosted by Music Arts students from the Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC). The festival takes place at Alderney Landing on May 16 and 17. On the event stages will be current talent (student ensembles and bands), as well as emerging acts from alumni and community members. This is a family-friendly event. Come spend your holiday weekend connecting with your local community through art and music!

If you like to read but don’t like to talk about books, you might like the Spring Silent Book Club event on Saturday, May 30, at Evergreen House on 26 Newcastle Street. This is an afternoon with a good book, a cozy cup of tea, and fellow readers—without the pressure of a big discussion. Treats and refreshments will be served and there will be door prizes. RSVP required at Evergreen House Museum.

From June 3 to 7, Alderney Landing is hosting STAGES Theatre Festival, its annual spring festival of exciting new work. STAGES focuses on bold, playful, and innovative creations that push the boundaries of what theatre can be. From full productions to family offerings and interactive pieces, STAGES highlights new performances from Atlantic Canada and beyond.

On Saturday June 6, the Dartmouth International Day of Play takes place at the Ferry Terminal Park next to Alderney Gate Library, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Families and children are invited to join for a fun-filled celebration of active, outdoor play, featuring loose parts play zones that spark creativity and imagination, classic outdoor games that bring generations together, and more. All activities are free and family friendly.
