Abandoned encampment reported along Highway 111

On May 3 the Post observed what appeared to be an abandoned tent in the woods south of Portland Street and west of Highway 111, at centre in the image.

A former encampment site along Highway 111 near Portland Street appears to have been abandoned, according to District 3 Councillor Becky Kent.
Halifax Regional Municipality compliance officers recently inspected the wooded area along the highway, heading toward Woodside, and found no indication that anyone is currently living there, Kent told the Post by email. However, several areas still contain garbage, sleeping materials and tents.
The site is located on provincially owned land. Municipal staff have contacted provincial officers to address clean up and next steps.
