Coun. Kent: Prince Arthur getting repaved, HRM to examine parking on Marvin Street
During February’s meeting about the Esson Road Project, Coun. Becky Kent told the group that Price Arthur Avenue was slated for repaving this year.
Repaving (or “recapitalization”) of the street, she later told the Post, “has been approved for this season from Southdale to Dustan, which is all the deteriorated sections and which will include traffic calming measures."
The councillor said a “new approach” would also be used for the intersection at Brock and Prince Arthur, adding that she hadn’t seen the design for the intersection but was told it would be geometric.
In addition, Clyde Street and Hershey Road will be repaved fully, she said.
The Post asked Kent if the oil crisis could impact repaving. She responded that it was “unlikely to affect paving but one can never be sure.”
Parking on Marvin Street has also caught Kent’s attention. She noted that having cars parked on both sides of the street sometimes prevents school buses, waste collection trucks, and emergency vehicles from making it up the street.
“I asked HRM Traffic Management staff to expedite a review and institute a measure to prevent this situation,” Kent told the Post. “Streets are often narrowed through snow collection during storms. When cars are parked on the street illegally, the snowplow cannot plow and more snow is left in the street along with cars that are left there. This is very problematic with critical services.
“I expect that there will be restricted times for no parking put in place very soon.”
