Late winter events bring fun, friendship to Dartmouth

The time around Valentine’s Day is always a good reminder to celebrate love and friendship, and South Dartmouth is offering many ways to do just that.

The third annual BLK JOY open mic event is being held on Sunday, February 22, from 3 p.m. onwards at the North Brewing taproom at 899 Portland St. This event, in support of the Black Beauty Culture Association, already has a variety of performers lined up, but spaces on the open mic roster remain. All are welcome to come and participate, though parents should know mature language is possible.

For those in the mood for good food and friendly service, downtown Dartmouth also is always worth a visit, especially so on Saturday, March 8, when the downtown is celebrating We Love Downtown Dartmouth Day! For this event, several Downtown Dartmouth businesses have come together to offer special deals, discounts or promotions, but only if you visit more than one shop, bar or eatery on that day. Just show your previous virtual or physical receipt from any other downtown Dartmouth business for a discount in the next location.

For a good meet with friends and neighbours right here in Pleasant Woodside, the North Woodside Community Centre Trivia Night is being held on Friday, March 27, at 7:30 p.m. This is an evening of friendly, neighbourly competition, with a grand prize of $150. Teams are asked to register beforehand at the community centre.
