Hyperlocal news in South Dartmouth, Nova Scotia

With traditional sources of local news on the decline and disengagement in social media on the rise, finding local news and perspectives grows harder by the day. There is, simply put, no longer a single platform that effectively reaches everyone and much of the work our neighbourhood association does to build understanding about local stories and information has nowhere to go.

To combat this, the Pleasant-Woodside Neighbourhood Association has started a community-driven, journalistic communication platform to provide reliable, hyper-local news and stories. The South Dartmouth Post is a printed newsletter (also on the web) that brings focus to critical community news, events, and features on local residents and businesses. Founded in a journalistic approach prioritizing accuracy, clarity, and relevance, The Post shares:

  • stories and news directly relevant to our neighbourhood;
  • features on local individuals, businesses, and community initiatives;
  • coverage of broader regional, national, or international issues only when they specifically impact the neighbourhood;
  • a space for local businesses to advertise to local residents.

This is an all-volunteer effort and we need your help.

We are looking for volunteers for writing, photography, and distribution.

Look for announcements about upcoming editorial meetings (which are open to the public) or contact us to help.
